Under the Banner of Heavenby Jon Krakauer |
Wanda Cohen: This isn't a book that I would have bought
on my own. It was loaned to me by a friend. I was hooked by the cover, as I so often am, and I
wasn't disappointed.
As the title says, Under the Banner of Heaven, A Story of Violent Faith, it is an indepth history
of the hidden facts behind the formation and early years of the Morman Faith. It brings all that
history into todays times and shows how it shapes the actions of todays followers. In 1984, a woman and
her baby daughter were murdered by two brothers. These men believed that they were ordered by G-d and
although they say they did it, they believe that they are not guilty of murder. They firmly believe that
they are only guilty of being G-d's right arm and no man has the right to judge or punish them.
This is a very well researched and well written non fiction book about a religion that I didn't know much
about although I've heard about it and met people who practice it all my life. I was floored by some of
the facts, disturbed by others.
Read it for the information it offers if not for the story. I recommend buying it as you will want
to share with your friends, just as mine did.
