The Widower's Taleby Julia Glass |
Arlene Almas (12/13/11): This is a wonderful story about Percy Darling
(the widower of the title) and his family, his friends and neighbors, his pond, and the nursery school which finds
a home in his (renovated) barn. We come to know Percy's two daughters, Clover and Trudy, and his grandson Robert;
with the opening of the nursery school, he acquires some appealing new friends. There are other characters as well;
Glass creates them all, both major and minor characters, as fully developed and realistic personalities. The
writing is delightfully natural, and the story held my interest from one scene to the next, all the way to the
startling events near the end. I will be looking for other books by this author.
