The Selected Works of T.S. Spivetby Reif Larson |
Carol Donsky Newell: It's hard to believe that a book written from the viewpoint of a child
who spends his days making maps, studying science and catergorizing
his world could be so full of wisdom and delight. I heard about this book
on NPR and it sounded original and interesting. I also bought it because
maps and science are definite weaknesses of mine and I thought it might
be challenging to try to understand them better. I couldn't put this book down.
You don't need to understand maps or science to love reading Larson's book,
for it's actually about family and life and coping with the death of a loved one.
It's about being brave enough to be yourself and to follow your passions.
There are passages worth keeping for reference in a journal and moments
that made me laught out loud. What a wonderful surprise this book is!
