The Hand That First Held Mineby Maggie O'Farrell |
Judy Stanton: Maggie O'Farrell is an accomplished storyteller.
The Hand that First Held Mine has two stories running parallel, separated by 50 years. They have
in common a perspective on the role of women, as professionals, artists, mothers and as
self-supporting, confident, accomplished people. The reader knows that the story from the 1950s
in the Soho district of London and current day London will ultimately link in another way, and
as the story progresses, it's difficult to put the book down until all is revealed. O'Farrell's
books seem to focus in on realtionshiups, be they marital, family, love, friendship, or mother/father/child. An enjoyable, pretty quick read.
