Judy Stanton: I really like Dubus' House of Sand & Fog and
was anxious to read his newest novel. I found it to be similar in theme to the other book;
that is, demonstrating the strife between people of different cultures, and giving each a chance
to tell his/her side of the story. His character development allows you to see the individual's perspective
as well as that of others, so that you can "feel their pain." Perhaps because I was prepared for that
approach from his first novel, I wasn't as taken by this story.
Still, I would recommend it as a good read.
