The Confessions of Max Tivoliby Andrew Sean Greer |
Dale Israel:
"We are each the love of someone's life." So begins The Confessions of Max Tivoli,
a quirky, heartbreaking love story that takes place in San Francisco at the turn of the twentieth century.
Max Tivoli was born with the physical appearance of an old man and as he ages,
he grows older mentally like any child but his body grows younger with each year.
(Initially, this concept was a little difficult for me to comprehend but as I read the book, I got the hang of it.)
Max's "affliction" allows him the opportunity to win the heart of the same
woman three times and at each successive encounter, she fails to recognize him.
This was a beautifully written book that grabbed my attention at the very start.
Mr. Greer certainly has an active imagination and is a very talented writer.
I enjoyed the book but it wasn't until the very end that I thought "Wow! This was great!"
If you enjoy "different" books that aren't mainstream,
you will love this one! I really, really liked The Confessions
of Max Tivoli and I'd love to hear what others have to say about it.
