Supreme Courtship

Supreme  Courtship

by Christopher Buckley

Gail Reid: Christopher Buckley's newest novel of political satire "Supreme Courtship" is a romp through the shenanigans of the Supreme Court. U.S. President Donald Vanderdamp fails to get his first two Supreme Court choices appointed, so he nominates Judge Pepper Cartwright, star of the wildly popular tv show "Courtroom 6".

Pepper is young, attractive, and a no-nonsense Texan whose southwest folksy charm is a hilarious addition to the Supreme Court discussions which are riddled with Latin terms of jurisprudence. Some ridiculous laugh-aloud things occur. President Vanderdamp has never wanted a second term and campaigns with the slogan "more of the same." Pepper is sued by her husband Buddy, the tv producer, for breach of contract when she quits "Courtroom 6" to accept the Supreme Court nomination. Senator Dexter Mitchell who wanted the Supreme Court position quits the senate to star in Buddy's newest tv hit, POTUS, where he plays the President of the United States and begins to believe that he is the Commander in Chief.

I really enjoyed Christopher Buckley's two recent books "Thank You for Smoking" and "Boomsday", and "Supreme Courtship" is equally as funny. If you feel like laughing out loud at the absurdity of politics, put this one on your short list.
