Summer Sistersby Judy Blume |
Kim Sisto Robinson: Do you enjoy Lifetime Movies? If so, you will most likely enjoy "Summer Sisters," but for me, nothing worked in this drab narrative. The characters were individuals without depth or substance, and I didn't really give a damn what happened to them in the end. I adore female bonding, relationships, friendships, and confiding to my best girlfriends about my deepest, darkest, dirtiest secrets, but I could not identify with these women, and pondered why they became friends to begin with. When they experimented with lesbianism...calling it "The Power," I thought, is this the only "Power" you can conjure up, baby? Even the sex was boring as hell.
"Summer Sisters" was a book thrown together at the spur of the moment by an author that obviously had a
dead line, and the readers suffered because of this fact. Nothing worked or connected...except when I
turned the last page.
