Judy Stanton:
I LOVED Sara Gruen's novel Water for Elephants. So, as I often do,
I sought out her other books. Her debut novel was Riding Lessons.
Of course, I was looking for a repeat performance, and it was just not there.
While it was a good, quick read, I almost felt like it was a young adult novel,
maybe a "summer read" at best. She does a good job
of quickly getting you into the story and wanting
to know what happens to the characters, but at one point,
I stopped and predicted what would happen at the end
and most of it came to be...too "happily ever after" for me.
She has a sequel, Flying Changes, but I don't think I'll go there.
Horse enthusiasts might enjoy it more.
