On the Run in Nazi Berlinby Bert Lewyn and Bev Saltzman Lewyn |
Judy Stanton (02/02/12): Having heard the authors talk
before reading this book made a big difference in my reading experience: I knew the "miracles"
that had kept Bert Lewyn alive during the Holocaust as an "underground" Jew living in Nazi
dominated Berlin.
While every survivor must have a compelling story, Bert Lewyn's was the stuff of Hollywood movies.
Even his wife had trouble believing that he had really had all these experiences. Reading the atrocities
he endured is more meaningful having actually met the man who experienced them. His daughter-in-law,
who wrote the book using his words, adding research, and asking the right questions, did a great
job of putting it all together. Very interesting read.
