Man in the Woodsby Scott Spencer |
Arlene Almas: Once Paul meets and falls in love with Kate, he moves in
with her and her daughter Ruby and his life takes on a stability he has not previously experienced. A
chance encounter with a stranger in a park results in an irrevocable action, affecting his entire existence
with Kate and Ruby, along with his place in the community as a friend, neighbor, and employer (really more of
a co-worker/friend). While giving us an empathetic view of Paul's daily life, the author ramps up the suspense
regarding the possible consequences of the event in the park, eventually making it impossible to stop reading
until you've finished the last page. The book is well written and the characters believable and sympathetic.
