Heart-Shaped Boxby Joe Hill |
Wanda Cohen: For those of you who don't know, Joe Hill is
Stephen King's son. Like his Dad, he can scare the pants off you and do it in such a way that
you are left standing there surprised that you are naked. This book draws you in and
doesn't let you go until well after you put it down and leaving the night light
on for safety, try to go to sleep. You meet Jude Coyne, a collector of strange and
unique treasures. He reads an ad that has him opening his wallet to purchase something that,
although he doesn't know it, will change his life and the lives of those around him forever,
and forever might not be too long. The ad reads, "I will 'sell' my stepfather's ghost to the
highest bidder..." The twist is that the ad is the real thing and the ghost
arrives as stated. Jude isn't the nicest, kindest guy on the block. In fact he's pretty nasty.
Still, even he doesn't deserve this. I love Stephen King in all his gruesome glory.
I love his son almost as much.
