Ghost Heroby S.J. Rozan |
Arlene Almas (11/28/11): This is a mystery featuring Lydia Chin,
a Chinese-American private eye. Lydia and her partner Bill Smith are investigating the case of a rumored
group of paintings by a Chinese artist who is said to have died during the protest at Tiananmen Square in Beijing
in 1989. The two partners, now assisted by another Chinese-American P.I. named Jack Lee, must locate
the paintings - if they exist - and determine if they are: painted by the deceased artist known as "Ghost Hero"
over 20 years ago; forgeries painted by someone else; or recent works by a still-living "Ghost Hero." The author
keeps the action moving at a brisk pace while providing the reader with glimpses of Chinese-American life
and culture; the language and dialogue are lively and colloquial. All in all, a fun read.
