Arlene Almas (01/21/12): I read this book based on Judy's review,
and while I am not as enthusiastic about it as she is, I can say that the story is truly out of
the ordinary. I found some of the mystical parts a bit over the top, but that is probably just
my bias toward realistic narrative. There is, however, plenty of realistic action, as well as
interesting material on archeology which does not detract from the story. If you're into spirituality
and mysticism, I think you'll enjoy this book.

Judy Stanton (11/16/11): Books about archeology have always
intrigued me; I love the idea of literally digging up history and the surprise of finding
something unexpected. And, in books, the long, drawn out work that is probably pretty
boring along the way goes by pretty quickly, with the focus on what is found. What Page Brookstone
finds in Israel is not only an amazing story about a prophet and his female scribe, but the
magic of how the discovery impacts everyone around it. Page's personal and professional lives
meld into this modern and ancient romance, peppered with bits of mysticism, and the promise
of interfaith accord. I found the story to be a quick, intriguing read touching on the
themes of friendship, love, relationships, interfaith dialogue, as well as the power
of politics and special interest groups in religious issues. A very good story; a
debut novel by a female rabbi!
